I believe this old hotel goes back to the 1800's. The hotel was on the corner of Chicago Rd and Matteson. Sadly there was a suicide by morphine here in 1907. The opera house was next door and it too had tragedies occur. The founder of the opera house, Milo Clark, died suddenly in 1885 after suffering a hemorrhage of the lungs after a performance. Additionally, a welder perished due to a ladder giving way while leaning against a cornice of the old opera house in 1949. At that time it was being used as an auto dealership. Both structures are long gone.
