This attraction is situated Upper Tahquamenon Falls which are amazing. The attraction was established by Joe Beach in 1927. Robert Hunter later became a partner in the business. A new riverboat was added in 1940 which accomodated 200 passengers. In 1963, another new, larger riverboat was added that was built by Vinette Boatworks in Escanaba. Those were the days when Michigan built everything.
The Toonerville Trolley name was adopted because passengers were reminded of the Toonerville Folks comic strip. So, the name was formally changed from Tahquamenon Boat Service. The attraction is still running as of 2022 ans is very popular. Robert Hunter's grandson, Hugh Stewart, bought the attraction in the 1980's and that family continues to operate it today. The website indicates lots of wildlife in and around the attraction including bears, deer, and bald eagles.
